About Us

Deeper Water Arts is founded by Julie Marie Muskat, a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and musician. It is her passion to help people incorporate creativity and wellness into their daily lives, finding inspiration toward the balance of the movement of the body and the stillness of the soul.

MISSION

Dancer in spotlight

Deeper Water Arts is an independent consulting firm that provides dance, cross training, and health and wellness opportunities for adults and young people.

OUR GOALS:

* To provide virtual and in-person adult mind/body wellness opportunities so that people can easily incorporate wellness into their busy lives

*To empower dancers ages 12+ through knowledge, creative exploration, and the recognition that each body is unique and beautiful

*To create equitable collaborative opportunities for young artists of ALL disciplines to come together and create unique art while developing their personal identities

*To help individuals balance activity and rest by providing dynamic scheduling that emphasizes this model

*To provide up-to-date education of scientifically sound and healthy movement techniques and other mind/body modalities

*To give back: A percentage of all adult programming goes directly toward youth programming, keeping the Artist Citizen Ensemble as equitable as possible for all young artists.  A percentage of ALL programming is donated to environmental organizations and/or direct tree-planting efforts across the world.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Deeper Water Arts & Mind/Body Center is built on respect, dignity, and inclusivity. We strive to actively invite the contribution and participation of all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, body type, and ability. We strive to reduce economic barriers to the next generation of artists by providing our youth programs at the lowest possible cost, and to reduce transportation barriers by providing virtual attendance options whenever possible.  Deeper Water Arts is committed to intentional anti-racism, empowering young people to build a more equitable society through art and social activism, and continually training and self-educating to improve our equitable practices.

Child Protection Policy

Deeper Water Arts & Mind/Body Center is committed to child safety and believes that we have an important part to play in preventing child abuse, self-harm, and eating disorders.  We want children to be safe, happy, and empowered, as they are vital and active participants in our programs.  We involve them when making decisions, especially about matters that directly affect them, and we listen to their views and respect what they have to say.  We promote diversity and tolerance; people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds are welcome, and are entitled to participate in an enjoyable and safe environment.  The welfare of any child is paramount, and the role of an adult mentorship is taken very seriously.  Deeper Water Arts will make every effort to provide a safe and supportive space for each individual, and will respect their privacy unless an issue triggers a mandatory reporting process.

“Julie Marie Muskat is a most thoughtful, creative, and encouraging teacher. Our family has taken dance, Pilates, Reformer, and myofascial release classes with her since 2017, and working with her is a delight every time. She creates a positive, learning-friendly environment that is invariably engaging, challenging, and fun.

“In private sessions, Julie Marie tailors her teaching to each student’s needs; and although she comes fully prepared for every session, she is always open-minded and ready to adapt based on how you’re feeling that day. Above all, Julie Marie is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and you are going to love working with her!”
